Today’s the first day in almost 2 weeks where I feel like I have both feet on the ground. My schedule is typically a simple juggling act but life recently decided to throw in a unicycle, a few more oranges, maybe a flame thrower or two and a chainsaw. And lil ol’ me is trying to stay balanced and keep everything afloat.
I thought I knew what being busy was but it turns out I’ve only had a tiny taste of it. This is a whole new level of busy for me and it’s been an odd combination of exhilarating and overwhelming. Between photoshoots, editing, running to meetings (I had 3 back to back meetings just yesterday alone), returning emails/phone calls/texts and a thousand and one other things, I knew I had to let go of something.
Last week while I was in San Diego, I just unplugged from social media. It wasn’t even a conscious decision. My 2 day schedule was so crazy I couldn’t even think about it. I didn’t Instagram, I didn’t Facebook…I only replied to important emails… And it was actually really, really nice. Not only was it one less thing to think about, but it allowed me to really enjoy my time down there and be in the moment. I had forgotten what that felt like. I loved it so much, I decided to continue doing it through the rest of the week and weekend.
I’m not giving up social media, if that’s what you’re thinking. No way. I love interacting with friends and clients and colleagues and keeping up with their wonderful lives. But I’ve decided to unplug from time to time and enjoy my real life more often than my virtual one. And to be a witness to the happenings in my life. TO BE PRESENT.
Reality is a lot lovelier anyway. #yolo
